Interns

InternsSome college graduates opt to become ministry interns while waiting for full-time employment, which sometimes takes a while in a developing country. Serving as a ministry intern allows graduates to get further ministry experience during the interval of time between graduation and finding their first job. But some interns use the opportunity to further investigate God's calling for full-time service while continuing to hone their ministry skills. Ministry interns witness on campus, lead Bible studies, perform one-on-one follow up, mentor student leaders, lead training apartments and work in submission with the local ministry core team.

REACH College Accord

Over the years, the gospel transformed Filipino students and others by the thousands while experienced leaders numbered only in the dozens. To the best of the ministry's ability and with the time available, baby Christians were nurtured and the basics were taught to the faithful, available, and teachable. REACH has a staff of committed workers who have been transformed by God, which is no small task. But the task of disciplemaking is not over yet and the ministry needs more workers. The REACH College Accord envisions to revitalize campus ministries through a cooperation between coaches and interns.

The word accord is a diplomatic term meaning to make an agreement. The REACH College Accord therefore is an agreement on the part of an intern to serve the Lord in a specific time and place. On the part of the coach it is an agreement to care for the young Christian's development into a disciplemaker.

Coaching is not about techniques or books. It’s about being with Jesus Christ and being transformed throughout. It’s just the means to put into place one of the principles of Jesus in discipling the 12 disciples. It’s called the With Him principle.

“He appointed twelve—designating them apostles—that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach.” —Mk. 3:14

The disciples learned by being with Him and observing Jesus’ relationship with the Father, His life, His passion, and His method. Coaching, like Jesus did, is life-contact. The result is transformation. Transformation always includes dynamic interaction: directly with God (2 Cor. 3:18; 1 Jn. 3:4) and reflected through His servants (Lk. 6:40).

Resource materials, including pamphlets and small books (25-100 pages) were compiled and are available to help the coaches. Guide questions accompany the books that the coach and intern can use for discussion. After going through the books, the coach and intern will have a valuable mini-libaray(See list of book titles).

An internship is a wonderful opportunity to learn how to make a disciple with a proven disciplemaker. Ministry areas should recruit potential interns, encourage their calling, communicate to the parents the significance of what their child is doing, and be creative and trust God for finances to support the intern during his or her service.

Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you: and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.
-Matthew 28:18-20
