Resources Development Cooperative Multipurpose Status Approved
Supporting Personal Initiative
Old and new clients of the Resources Development Cooperative (RDC) in Silang, Caloocan and Marikina continue to enjoy the cooperative's credit services, that were approved for use in their small businesses. Credit was used to boost business ventures such as a sari-sari store, a goto food kiosk, and fruit vending.
Two new clients living in Silang, Caloocan received their first loan in February. Teodora Juarbal and Merlyn Ombajin are fruit vendors who sell their goods wholesale to retailers. Loans from RDC enabled them to raise the additional capital they needed to conduct their businesses.
Marilyn Coquita is a sari-sari store owner in Marikina who has been a client of RDC for one year. During the year she has taken out five loans. She says the low interest that RDC charges on her loans enabled her to save a lot. Aside from that, she can buy her store's variety of goods at wholesale because of the big capital that the RDC lent her. That is why she has a lot of groceries and other goods for her sari-sari store. In this way, RDC has really hellped her and her small business.
Mely Matibag is also from Marikina and a client for one year. She has taken out three loans from the RDC and was able to expand her vegetable selling business. Aside from selling vegetables, she also put up a food kiosk in her house where she sells goto and other varieties of merienda. She says the RDC's loan services have really hellped her business grow because RDC's interest rate is low and she can pay on a small installment basis.

RDC Multipurpose Status Approved
On October 10, 2005 the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) approved the Resources Develoopment Cooperative's (RDC) request to expand its scope of services from credit and savings to a multipurpose cooperative. Now RDC can conduct commerce and offer professional services.
As a multipurpose cooperative, the RDC will be able to help market products such as the trembler frequency lamp for Kalinangan at Kasaganaan, Inc. started by several REACH members.
The RDC by providing professional services, could offer training seminars. This would allow REACH members with marketable skills to serve as resource people and inject the gospel and Christian values in the course of the training, which is in line with REACH's commitment to infiltrative disciplemaking.
The conversion into a multipurpose cooperative will make the RDC more flexible and able to meet its objective to increase its capital base iin order to help members, and hopefully the general constituency of REACH, meet their financial needs through easily available credit.
