College
and NVSIT Team Sign Agreement
to Cooperate in Values Training
Greater cooperation in Values Education was agreed upon between
the College of Education at the Nueva Viscaya State Institute
of Technology (NVSIT) in Bayombong, Nueva Viscaya and the
local REACH chapter. All education students are required to
take Values Education classes.
A memorandum of agreement (MOA) formalizes the relationship
that has developed over the years between the college and
the ministry through various joint programs. The MOA recognizes
the commitment of both groups to educate and train students
"Šin the areas of values education and good morals
aimed at producing generations of responsible, disciplined
and upright professionals and technicians."
The College of Education will plan activities where values
education, moral recovery and spiritual growth of the students
and other constituents are needed; provide technical assistance;
and coordinate with REACH in the preparation and implementation
of activities and projects associated with the agreed objectives.
REACH will provide materials such as films, videos and equipment;
resource people; and extend support to students and other
constituents needing extra attention.
Values Education is a required subject for all Education
students at the College. The agreement gives REACH the opportunity
to help with the values formation and spiritual development
of these students, who will eventually teach in the province
and throughout the country.
The REACH-NVSIT team previously participated in an extension
project of the College of Education called Adopt-a-Barangay
in Tuao, Bagabag, N.V. REACH gave technical assistance by
hooking up televisions for a video presentation of Three Who
Dare, which was shown to high school students. It was followed
with the values formation program conducted by REACH member,
Jane Navalta, Assistant Coordinator at the College Research
Center, who presented the gospel.
Traditionally, the NVSIT team reaches out to students by
assisting enrolling students, holding a welcoming activity
for Freshman students, and inviting students to attend a weekly
campus fellowship.
Jane shares the gospel with over 100 students in her classes
each semester.
During the past year, the Values Education classes started
with the video Molder of Dreams, about Guy Doud who was named
Best Teacher of America in 1986.
The film, Three Who Dared, presents three real situations
with characters in trouble because of selfishness and wrong
decisions who hear the gospel and find peace of mind and order
in their lives through Jesus Christ.

Metro Manila college students committed themselves to purity
during a post-Valentine's Day fellowship. The event was part
of a month-long series on the biblical perspective of love.
By candle light and to soft music playing in the background,
students came forward one by one to sign a pledge card to
remain pure in their relationships. The card can be kept in
their wallet to remind them of their commitment.
Students pledged to God, to their family, and to their future
mate and children to be sexually abstinent from that day until
they enter a biblical marriage relationship.
The pledge cards contained the commitment printed over a
rainbow background, recalling God¹s own covenant with
mankind and the earth.
Ministry intern, Weng Irizari, told the students that God
desires each student to find something better than a one night
stand. "He wants us to experience true love," he
said, and God's design is "one woman for one man for
life."
Weng gave these tips for maintaining purity while waiting
for God¹s timing:
- Seek God,
- Guard your heart,
- Guard your thoughts,
- Look at others in a different light
(as a brother or sister rather than as a potential boyfriend
or girlfriend),
- Make friends,
- Prepare your answers to pressure lines
(ex. "If you really love me you will!"),
- Get involved in something greater than yourself
(ex. ministry, helping others),
- Think of singleness as a blessing,
- Enjoy your singleness,
- Strive for purity.
Collegiate staff, Maribel Lai, reminded the students that
purity goes beyond the physical aspect, and involves one¹s
thoughts and speech (Eph. 5:3-5).
For those who may have fallen, Weng reminded them that, "God
can forgive any sinŠGod can accept us and free us (from
this point onward)."
He also cautioned the students not to judge those who fall,
"because Jesus who has the authority to judge, did not
judge," as in the case of the woman who committed adultery.
Jesus final words to her were to go and sin no more.
During the month, the students also wrote personal words
of commitment to their future mate and children, if God so
provides.
Collegiate staff, Lety Moran defined true love and shared
how to give it to God, oneself, family and friends, and one¹s
future mate and children.
She added that, "Religious people know the truth, but
spiritual people do it!."
